Why It's Important to Pick a DVC Resort You Enjoy as Your Home Resort

Updated: May 18, 2023

When considering purchasing a Disney Vacation Club (DVC) contract, one of the most important decisions you'll make is choosing your home resort. Your home resort is the resort where you'll have priority booking for your desired room type and dates, and where you'll be able to book reservations up to 11 months in advance. With so many options to choose from, it can be tempting to base your decision solely on factors like location and price. However, it's important to pick a resort you enjoy staying at as your home resort for several reasons.

Priority Booking

One of the biggest advantages of owning a DVC contract is the ability to book your vacations at your home resort up to 11 months in advance. This means that if you have a specific room type or location in mind, you'll have the best chance of securing it if you own at that resort. If you choose a resort as your home resort that you don't enjoy staying at, you'll be limiting your options when it comes to booking your vacations.

Familiar Amenities

Every DVC resort has its own unique amenities and features. When you choose a resort that you enjoy staying at as your home resort, you'll be able to take advantage of these amenities on a regular basis. For example, if you love the pool at Disney's Polynesian Villas & Bungalows, you'll be able to enjoy it every time you stay at your home resort. This familiarity can make your vacations more enjoyable and less stressful, as you'll already be familiar with the layout and features of the resort.

Familiar Staff

In addition to the amenities, you'll also become familiar with the staff at your home resort. The front desk, housekeeping, and other staff members will become familiar faces, making your vacations feel more like a home away from home. This can be especially comforting for families with young children who may be nervous in unfamiliar environments.

Investment Value

When you purchase a DVC contract, you're making a long-term investment in your vacation future. Choosing a resort that you enjoy staying at as your home resort can help ensure that you get the most value out of your investment. If you choose a resort that you don't enjoy staying at, you may be less likely to use your points or to keep your membership current. This could result in lost value for your investment.

Trading Power

If you do choose to stay at a resort other than your home resort, your ability to book those reservations will depend on your trading power. Trading power is determined by a number of factors, including the demand for the resort, the time of year, and the room type. When you own at a resort that you enjoy staying at as your home resort, you'll likely have higher trading power for that resort. This can increase your chances of booking your desired reservation at another resort.

Resale Value

If you decide to sell your DVC contract in the future, the resale value will depend on a number of factors, including the resort you own at. Resorts that are in high demand and have a loyal following of owners typically have a higher resale value.
